The custom of requesting a priest to offer the Mass for a specific intention, even when one cannot be physically present at the Mass, is a longstanding tradition in the Church. This is because the Church considers the Mass as the greatest possible prayer of intercession insofar as it is the perfect offering of Christ to the Father by making present the paschal mystery of his death and resurrection. Intentions include masses for the deceased, anniversaries of all types, those who are ill and in thanksgiving for those recovering from illness or for those who have experienced great joy. Please complete a mass intention envelope, remembering to indicate if the person for whom the intention has passed away (RIP) and your telephone number, and give to the parish priest or leave it at the presbytery. Note: the dates you request may already be taken, so unless other alternatives are suggested, the mass will be offered for the next available date.
